July 1st.
July 1st is not just the NHL Free Agency Day – it’s also Canada Day. When you think about it, that kind of makes the most sense. We really do make the best hockey players. Just ask the Washington Capitals, there are so many Canadian’s on the team I think they should start playing our National anthem during home games.
Being away from home on July 1st kind of sucked. It’s one of those “the heart grows fonder” sort of things, where suddenly I felt the incredible desire to drink Tim’s while cutting someone off in traffic and then waive at them in apology and top it off by stopping at the doctors office just because I could. Right now I’d settle for just being able to say Hi to a stranger and not have them glare at me like I just stole their soul and threw the equilibrium of the universe off it’s axis.
Okay, I’m being slightly dramatic, but that’s the point. It’s the little things that matter and it’s the little things we need to celebrate that make us awesome. So next time someone let’s you go ahead in a line for no reason, thank them. The next time you pay taxes, remember it’s for a damn good reason. And most importantly, the next time you order a ‘Double Double’ remember to thank the universe that you don’t have to run on Dunkin.
To commemorate July 1st I decided to compile two great videos. One that is so pro Canada you’ll want to go out and hug your neighbour. And the other one, well, it will make you dance in your chair while you listen to Maestro Fresh Wes get his hate on. Because really, who doesn’t love a little Maestro in the morning!
